The All Island Schools’ English Literary Association revolutionizes the Sri Lankan way of the English language and literature, by building a widespread inter-school network. AISELA offers uncountable resources to the studious youth of the nation. It will serve as a catalyst for the talents of Sri Lankan writers, and also as a foothold for those who hope to learn the English language and literature along with its wonders.

Areeb Rafique
Zahira College, Colombo
Mohamed Areeb Rafique is a dedicated advocate for English literature and linguistic excellence. As a student of Zahira College, Colombo, he has demonstrated outstanding leadership as the President of the English Literary Association of Zahira College, President of the Science Society, Secretary of the Astronomy Club, Co-Secretary of the Writers’ Forum, and Chief Editor of both the Writers’ Forum and the History Club. His roles as a newsreader, announcer, public speaker, and author, highlight his mastery of communication and leadership skills. Areeb’s passion for English literature began at a young age, growing into a deep appreciation for the power of words to evoke emotions, shape perspectives, and inspire change. As President of AISELA, he is committed to fostering a vibrant literary culture across Sri Lanka, promoting creative expression, and empowering students to engage with English language and literature in meaningful and innovative ways.

Tharini Wijeratne
Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo 05
Tharini Vihanga Wijeratne is a passionate young advocate for literature and language. As a student of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo 05, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership in several roles as the Vice president of the English Literary Association, treasurer and senior committee member of the English Broadcasting Unit, member of the school’s Design Club and part of the school’s United Nations club. Her diverse experience as a Model United Nations representative, interactor, public speaker, announcer, debater, and writer, reflects her strong command of language and communication. With a lifelong love for English literature, Tharini finds immense joy in reading and writing, using storytelling to inspire, connect, and foster new perspectives. As vice president of AISELA, she is committed to nurturing literary appreciation among students, expanding opportunities for creative engagement, and empowering young minds to explore the richness of language and literature across Sri Lanka.

Ayodh Karasinghe
St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy
Ayodh Karasinghe is an enthusiastic advocate for English literature, drama, and public speaking. As a student of St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy, he has demonstrated strong leadership as the secretary of the Vesters’ English Speaking Club and an active committee member of the English Literary Association, the Shakespearean Society, and the Bilingual Cultural Association. His talent in English literature and performance is evident through his achievements in divisional and zonal competitions, particularly excelling as an actor in zonal-level Shakespearean drama competitions. With a deep appreciation for storytelling and the arts, Ayodh continues to use his skills to inspire students to explore literature beyond the classroom. As secretary of AISELA, he is committed to fostering literary excellence, expanding opportunities for students to engage in English literary skills, and promoting a culture where language and literature thrive across Sri Lanka.

Shashika Madugalla
St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy
Shashika Madugalla is a dedicated student leader from St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy. At just 16, he has excelled in numerous leadership roles, serving as the President of the Bilingual Cultural Association and the History & Archaeological Society, as well as holding key positions in Interact, Leo, and the Student Parliament. He was the Junior Head Prefect of the school and also an accomplished debater. Shashika showcased his strong command of the English language by emerging as The Best Debater of the Dreams 360+ Debate Competition, Kandy. His passion for literature, debating, and public speaking drives his commitment to promoting English and literary appreciation across Sri Lanka. As Treasurer of AISELA, he plays a crucial role in supporting initiatives that enhance student engagement with English literature. Through his leadership, he strives to contribute to advancing English literary skills in Sri Lankan schools.
